What is vesting?

Vesting is the process of releasing your staking rewards over a period of time, usually at a specified frequency or fixed interval, with a corresponding amount of tokens to be released at every payment.

In traditional markets, a company may offer equity as part of an employment deal. However, the stock will have to go through a vesting period first. This means that access to the shares is given after a certain amount of time in order to encourage longer participation in the company.

Vesting in cryptocurrency is similar. It is the process of locking and releasing tokens after a given time. Usually, vested tokens belong to the team, partners, and others who contributed to the development of the project. It may also include investors who purchased tokens before they went on general sale.
